Five Benefits of Counterintuitive Thinking
What is counterintuitive thinking? It sounds complicated, but it really isn’t. I define counterintuitive thinking as a way of thinking not subscribed to by many people. An example of counterintuitive thinking would be to buy stock when the stock market is crashing. Most people are panicking during a stock market crash, but a counterintuitive thinker would be hunting for valuable stocks at bargain prices. The same example could also be used for the real estate market. Some real estate investors have taken themselves out of the market during this soft time in real estate. On the other hand counterintuitive thinkers might be aggressively buying real estate at bargain prices.
On an emotional level, a counterintuitive thinker might be someone who vows to keep a positive attitude even through difficult times. Looking for positive benefits in the midst of a difficult situation is not easy, but the alternative is depression and a negative outlook. Depression and a negative outlook will neither help you, your family or your friends. Another example of counterintuitive thinking on an emotional level might be to show kindness to a person who is less than kind to you.
The following are some benefits to counterintuitive thinking:
1. Less competition. Since most people are more comfortable following trends, you will find more opportunities in a less crowded field.
2. You may find that by occasionally using counterintuitive thinking you will be able to personally perform better in life.
3. Counterintuitive thinking may relieve you of the stress of wondering whether the crowd is right.
4. You may be viewed as a bold leader not afraid to take chances.
5. Using the strategy of counterintuitive thinking may lead to more "thinking outside the box" moments. Thinking outside the box moments may send you on your way to greater prosperity.
