According to the website AceShowBiz Christian rock group Casting Crowns was formed in 1999 by youth pastor Mark Hall at First Baptist Church in Downtown Daytona Beach, Florida. "I've been a youth pastor for about 12 years, and every church I've been in, music's always been a part of it", Hall said. He fronted the group as a singer and songwriter, recruiting guitarists Juan DeVevo and Hector Cervantes and violinist Melodee DeVevo. They later moved to Stockbridge, Georgia in 2001 only to gain more members.

While the music was composed by the band, the lyrics come from the hymn "One Day", written in 1910 by John Wilbur Chapman.  The song's melody was arranged by Michael Bleecker at The Village Church in Flower Mound, Texas. The single has been successful on Christian radio, reaching the top spot on the Hot Christian Songs, Soft AC/Inspirational, and Christian AC charts. The song has also achieved some inroads on secular charts, currently peaking at #2 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart.
